What is an RSS Feed?

RSS stands for Real Simple Syndication.

It is an online tool that converts a wide variety of information from various sources into an organized index of the latest news, articles and postings automatically.

RSS allows recent postings to be displayed by programs that you can download called RSS readers in order to display the most updated information feeds directly to your computer. The advantage of RSS is that it allows the selection of relevant information to be directly shown to you in the format and frequency of delivery that you specify. It helps you to save time and keep track of selected information automatically, without having to always navigate to the webpage every time you need to check for updates.

RSS, however, is still in early adoption stage, although it is gaining popularity. RSS also currently only notifies you of the latest headlines, clicking the links that are provided through your RSS Reader will send you to the web page where the bulk of the information will reside.

How to View RSS Feeds

Viewing RSS feeds is usually dependent on the RSS Reader program that you choose to utilize, however, the principle procedures are very similar:

1. Open your RSS Reader program
2. In your browser, click on the RSS Feed link that you want to start getting updates on
3. Once the page loads, copy the URL in the browser's address bar
4. Paste the copied URL address into your RSS reader program

You should now be receiving information in your RSS Reader program. Check the preferences or options menu in your RSS Reader program to set the amount of content and to also set an update schedule that fits your needs.
